The term "Ziegler" carpet comes from the Anglo-Swiss company "Ziegler & Co.", carpet manufacturer at the end of the 19th century. Their specialty was the production of carpets inspired by traditional Persian patterns with a patinated appearance using wool spun by hand and dyed using natural dyes. Ziegler has now become the common term for this style of rug. Nowadays, Ziegler rugs are entirely hand knotted in Pakistan.
